FIT provides grants (typically between £5,000 and £30,000) for UK-focused projects that promote and deliver transport as a basic right and tackle climate change and emissions from transport.

Our funding principles

  • We support local initiatives and causes at a community level as well as national initiatives that address the big pictures of investment and government policy.
  • We are ambitious and not afraid of funding new and radical approaches.
  • We fund work that has the potential for ongoing impact and that others can learn from and replicate.
  • We support those who are building communities of changemakers.
  • We focus on changes to land-based transport, with reductions in the use of aviation celebrated but not directly funded.

Frequently asked questions

How much will FIT give in funding?

FIT usually gives grants of between £5,000 and £30,000, with grants above this amount only given in exceptional circumstances; applicants stand a better chance of being funded if they can keep their bid below £20,000.

Can I include additional materials with my funding application?

Each application should be accompanied by a full and detailed budget, per the guidelines on the application form. This can be emailed separately to the Grants Manager at admin@integratedtransport.co.uk

There should be no need to include any documentation in addition to the application form and budget, as all relevant information relating to your application should be detailed within your application form; our trustees do not have time to read supplementary documentation. However, we can occasionally make an exception in cases where additional supporting information is directly relevant to the application. If you would like to submit additional information under this exemption, please contact the Grants Manager.

 

What will give my funding application the best chance of success?

  • Check our vision, mission and outcomes to ensure your project is related to our aims and objectives.
  • Follow FIT’s funding principles above, in particular by showing that the project can have broader relevance to others doing similar work.
  • We will look favourably upon any application which has either already received or is in the process of applying for funding from other sources to put towards this project.

Please note, we do not fund capital costs such as the purchase of buses, minibuses, bikes, bike sheds or eCargo bikes, or the operational costs of bus, minibus or bike schemes. We also do not fund travel plans and other similar schemes.

Application process

Please complete and submit the application form below; this will then be reviewed by our Grants Manager. Some proposals may be turned down if they do not meet our criteria, or more detail may be requested.

Suitable proposals will then be forwarded to trustees, with final decisions made at FIT Board meetings.

Deadlines by which to receive applications are as follows:

  • 20 February 2026 (for decision at the March Board meeting)
  • 21 August 2026 (for decision at the September Board meeting)

Applications must be received by 23:55 on the above dates. We advise submitting proposals in advance of these deadlines in order to resolve any application queries before the decision making meeting.
