Summary of aims
BackPedal is fighting back against bike and ebike theft by tracking and recovering stolen bikes. A bike gets stolen every two minutes in the UK, with profound financial, social and environmental impacts. With over £250,000 worth of bikes recovered to date, and coverage by the BBC and Channel 4, BackPedal’s goal is to promote cycling for the UK by making bike crime unprofitable. With most thieves stealing to sell the bikes, recovering them removes that income and reduces the incentive. People can then feel more confident investing in cycling, enabling them to travel with minimum impact on other people’s lives and the environment.
