Focus of work
This funding allowed a community action group (RRAG) to challenge the Appeal for the Solum Redhill station development (Appeal APP/L3625/W/25/3364217) on transport grounds (accessibility, road safety and active travel). The developer wanted to build 255 flats on the front access of the main railway station in East Surrey.
Impact
The funding allowed the community group to commit to challenging the developer’s
transport impacts as a Rule 6 party. A Transport Expert Witness was hired from Transport Initiatives to present the case that the transport access for the development was not adequate.
The Transport Expert Witness focused on how the scheme had overlooked road safety impacts, discourages cycling, failed to improve the bus station and had negative impacts on disabled users of the station.
In January 2026, the Planning Inspector rejected the appeal for the proposed Redhill station development, finding that the scheme would cause significant harm and should not go ahead.
