Focus of work
The Far North Line Community Rail Partnership works with local communities to promote their rail service, and other integrated transport modes, in the Scottish Highlands.
They do this to improve mobility, encourage sustainable tourism, develop community cohesion and wellbeing, as well as advance social and economic development.
The Far North Line Community Rail Partnership was granted some funding for an exciting new role, a Sustainable Transport Officer. This role, now successfully filled, will promote the Far North Line to the whole community and beyond – contributing to thousands of new rail and sustainable transport journeys in the Scottish Highlands.
Impact
The impact on the local community will be seen for years to come.
The new part-time role is:
- Building awareness of sustainable travel options and encouraging use of rail for access to services and wider community benefit – promoting local transport as an alternative to road trips in the Scottish Highlands
- Creating an easy and accessible way for visitors and local people who use the Far North Line to make an impact on the local economy within communities, particularly around responsible tourism and sustainable travel
- Working with transport providers and other stakeholders to produce and publicise detailed information about all transport modes in the region, and where possible, increase service provision and transport interchange opportunities
- Building awareness and appreciation of climate impact, biodiversity, and the natural environment in local communities and among visitors.
