Focus of work
Kidical masses are family-friendly mass bike rides, designed to increase families’ confidence in cycling together, and to highlight the need for better cycling infrastructure so that kids can cycle to their schools, parks, doctors, etc. KidicalMass Reading wants to get kids and adults excited about cycling, improve confidence on roads and have fun on bikes. But they’re not just a cute ride, they’re a mobility revolution giving children a voice, after all a town that’s good for children is good for everyone.
Impact
FIT’s funding supported KidicalMass with the following:
- Attendence at two festivals, with bike rides held at both, including one local MP joining.
- Organisation of five rides with 300 participants.
- Design and print of leaflets to be handed out and advertised on line, which directly contributed to increased riders at events.
- Over 30 children given bike lights to help them cycle safely to school.
- Engagement with schools to encourage their involvement in Kidical Mass child rides.
