Focus of work
For this project, Acorn campaigned for better buses for Liverpool and the Merseyside region. It aimed to ensure that services are run in the interests of everyone in the region, through a franchised service with an integrated ticketing system and better connections.
Impact
In October 2023, Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram announced that bus franchising would be implemented. This campaign mobilised hundreds of people to complete the consultation. A staff member, funded by the project, developed a network of empowered service users to help campaign for improvements in the region.
The project worked with other organisations, such as We Own It, to develop campaigns.
Because of ACORN’s membership model, people who joined to support this campaign will remain members. This means the project will continue campaigning around transport issues in the region going forward, including ensuring the consultation is honoured and franchising is implemented.
