Low Traffic Future

Focus of work

Low Traffic Future is an alliance that aims to shift the conversation around transport to show some of the amazing benefits that reduced traffic can bring. Their vision is a world where fewer journeys need to be made by car, van or lorry, so that we all benefit from cleaner air, safer streets, more vibrant communities, a stable climate and a healthy natural environment.

Low Traffic Future is growing a group of like minded organisations that can work together to achieve a positive vision for transport right across the UK. They would like to see our roads, streets and transport networks planned differently, giving us real choices in how we go about our daily lives. They want it to be easy and enjoyable to get around by walking, wheeling or cycling, and for public or shared transport to be cheaper and more accessible. This will make day-to-day journeys good for our health, our communities, our economy and our environment.

Impact

Low Traffic Future has built a broad alliance of over 20 national members across the UK, which they aim to grow significantly over the next few years. Low Traffic Future hosts regular alliance meetings for both local and national action and are getting more people talking about less motor traffic. Throughout 2023 they hosted a series of workshops around England for local campaigners looking at Local Transport Plans (LTP). This has inspired and empowered many local campaigners to now get more involved with influencing their LTP. With many local authorities now updating their LTPs, now is a good time to press them to strengthen their ambitions for a low traffic future, ensuring they have strong plans for sustainable and healthy travel.
