Focus of work
Telegraph Hill in South East London suffers from increasing volumes of traffic and associated pollution. In 2018, Lewisham Council found that over 75% of the traffic on Jerningham Road was breaking the speed limit, and a significant proportion of cars were over double the speed limit.
People’s Action for Telegraph Hill (PATH) is a group of residents who have come together to address the traffic problrms and create people-friendly streets that will make the area safer for walking and cycling.
As part of its funding from FIT, PATH hired an architect to draw plans to show how road space on Kitto Road, at the top of Telegraph Hill, could be repurposed alongside the introduction of a Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN). The architect’s plans for Kitto Road included a pedestrianised link between Upper and Lower Telegraph Hill park, outdoor seating, an outdoor library, permanent seating for music and other performances, as well as space for a weekend market and other semi-permanent vendors.
