Focus of work
Possible’s mission is a zero carbon Britain, built by and for the people of the UK. When it comes to transport, Possible understands that most people want to see less traffic and congestion on our roads – the question is how to get there.
For this project, Possible built a media campaign to demonstrate and broaden existing public consensus for intervention on ever-rising traffic levels, as well as increase awareness and acceptability of pay-as-you-drive.
Activites undertaken as part of this project included:
- Release of a blog post and briefing paper summarising the evidence base for and popularity of traffic reduction.
- Participation in a webinar to discuss the briefing paper.
- Mainstream media coverage that made the progressive case for traffic reduction and pay-as-you-drive, such as BBC Radio 5 Live, LBC and the Evening Standard.
Impact
With traffic set to rise, holding back our health, the economy, the NHS and our climate targets, a change in direction is urgently needed. Turning the tide on traffic means cleaner air, lower transport costs and healthier lives, as well as tackling the biggest source of the UK’s emissions.
This project achieved its aims of building and demonstrating public support for traffic reduction, with 515 people using Possible’s “Write to your MP” tool as part of a mass email campaign.
