Focus of work
The Transport for the Lake District (TfLD) initiative address the core question: “In the mid 21st century, what should a world-class transport system look like for the Lake District?” It takes a vision-led approach with broad engagement to develop area-wide interventions with a focus on the emerging Cumbria Combined Authority.
Activities as part of the project will include:
- Developing a public engagement campaign involving existing communications
networks, online and face-to-face meetings, and press and social media. A core
resource will be a re-designed TfLD website. - Building constructive relationships with transport authorities.
- Developing and refining what transport systems for the Lake District might look like.
- Mapping out possible delivery pathways.
Impact
- A broad awareness among the public and decision makers of what deliverable, world-class access and transport systems could be like for the Lake District leading to a groundswell of demand and desire for change.
- Commitment by the emerging Combined Authority for meaningful change – leading to fair, low-carbon, landscape-appropriate access and transport systems for the Lake District.
As the most popular of the UK’s 15 national parks, the Transport for the Lake District initiative will help demonstrate what world-class transport for a rural visitor destination can look like and how it can be delivered in the UK.
