Focus of work
Greengauge 21 is an independent policy research group specialising in transport and its wider impacts. In 2019, it received FIT funding towards the publication of a report on how improving sustainable transport connectivity could help to address inequalities in the UK. This report comprised a key policy component in the UK 2070 Commission’s enquiry into regional inequalities.
Impact
Greengauge’s report, UK’s 2070 Transport Infrastructure Requirement, was published in August 2019. The report contributed to ensuring that the UK 2070 Commission recognised that:
- Public transport connectivity is a key factor in determining the success of any spatial planning.
- Dividing public transport connectivity into urban and rural segments risks overlooking “the urban-rural continuum”, which surrounds many cities, particularly in the north with former industrial towns and villages.
