Apply for funding from FIT

FIT funding update – 19 September 2025

Please note that FIT has temporarily paused its grant-making and investing whilst the trustees finalise a review of the Foundation’s strategy, objectives and priorities. It is currently anticipated that funding will recommence in March 2026.

Urgent applications in exceptional and limited circumstances may be considered. If you wish to apply under this exemption, please contact the Grants Manager on admin@integratedtransport.co.uk who will decide whether sufficient evidence has been provided to justify consideration of an emergency application. Please note we will only consider applications under this special exemption in extremely limited circumstances where full supporting evidence has been provided.

Further details of FIT’s revised strategy and priorities will be published on our website in due course.

In 2025/26, FIT’s funding focus areas are:

  • Planning for people not cars: providing better alternatives to the car including better public transport
  • Helping and encouraging people to transform transport in their own areas to create local prosperity
  • Promoting and disseminating learning from areas that have devolved powers on transport

The local groups we fund could, for example, be campaigning for better local bus or coach services; integrated public transport; public-transport-friendly residential, business or leisure developments; or safe and attractive infrastructure for walking and cycling.

Running costs might include travel expenses, events organisation, postage, or the design and printing of promotional materials. FIT’s small grants are aimed at groups run entirely or predominantly by volunteers.

Please note, the small grants programme is for operational costs. We do not fund capital costs such as the purchase of minibuses, bikes, or bike sheds, or associated minibus or bike equipment.

We also do not fund community minibus projects or excursions, or bus/coach trips.
